The Best Crochet Books for 2023 and Beyond
There are times when it’s beneficial to seek out the most up-to-date information. Crochet books do tend to maintain their usefulness for many years; however, it can be aggravating to have to substitute yarns or track down yarns that have been discontinued when you’re working from older crochet pattern books.
If you crochet trendy wearable projects like hats, scarves, sweaters and dresses, working with brand new patterns gives you a chance to maximize the wear you’ll get from each item before the trends change. While home décor trends tend to have a longer life cycle, the same holds true if you want to crochet items for decorating your home.
This list offers you a look at many of the trendiest, newest crochet books that have been released in 2017-2023. These offerings include some of the most outstanding, interesting and useful books we’ve yet discovered. We hope you’ll enjoy browsing this page and learning more about each book featured on the list.
Delicate Crochet: 23 Light and Pretty Designs for Shawls, Tops and More
By Sharon Silverman, Published by Stackpole Books

Corner-to-Corner Lap Throws for the Family
Corner-to-corner crochet is trending up, up, UP right now. Bunches of crochet designers have been jumping on board with this technique, learning it, posting about it in their blogs and making corner-to-corner crochet patterns, projects, videos and tutorials available.
It’s no wonder the technique is so popular; it’s fun, engaging and it allows you to make colorful pictorial crochet projects much more quickly than you’d be able to using other colorwork methods like tapestry crochet and cross stitch on crochet.
I had the best success with learning how to do the corner-to-corner crochet technique after watching Sarah Zimmerman’s Learn Corner-to-Corner Crochet Class produced by Annie’s Crafts. (That link takes to my review of Sarah’s class — which will give you bunches more details).
The short version of my review: I highly recommend Sarah’s class. Before I watched the class, I found the corner-to-corner crochet technique a bit perplexing. As I was watching the class, I realized that it isn’t hard at all if you can watch an expert like Sarah demonstrate it. In fact, it is so easy to learn that the skill level rating for the class is “Confident beginner”. While I’m far from being a beginner, I learned bunches from this class — and I bet many of you will, too.
Taking the class is not strictly a necessity if you are interested in learning the corner-to-corner crochet technique. Sarah also makes a step-by-step photo tutorial available in her new book called Corner-to-Corner Lap Throws for the Family. The tutorial includes a lovely practice heart pattern, plus patterns for working corner-to-corner crochet in a solid color, plus 5 fresh, lively, colorful blanket patterns.

Overlay Crochet: 10 Projects Add Dimension and Style to Your Home
By Kristi Simpson, published by Leisure Arts
Type of Book: In theory, this is both a crochet pattern book and a crochet technique book. But in practice, it’s really more of a pattern book, because it doesn’t give you all that much in-depth information about the actual technique of overlay crochet.
Why you’d want to own this book:
Overlay Crochet gives you 10 outstanding patterns for making colorful, three-dimensional projects that pile up layer upon layer of fabulous texture. The overall effect is intriguing to look at, with all its glorious complexity and richness. Yet there’s a logic to crocheting these projects that makes them easier than you’d think, once you understand how to do it.
The projects are all remarkable and gift-worthy: A blanket, a pillow, a set of placemats and coasters, a mandala, a crossbody bag, a doily rug, a hassock (pouf) and others.
