Craft Room Ideas: Design a Workspace You’ll LOVE Using These Inspiration Photos!

Are you interested in creating a dedicated workspace you can use for your sewing, quilting, painting, drawing or other arts and crafts? Perhaps you’re a serious crafter or even a craft business owner who is interested in working from home. No matter what your experience level with arts and crafts might be, you will save time and get better results if you create a dedicated work space for your crafts. These craft room ideas can help you to design a craft room or workspace you’ll LOVE using:

Sewing Rooms

Sewing rooms will ideally include space for a sewing machine, dress form and ironing board; they’ll usually also include a large table to use for cutting fabrics and laying out pattern pieces. Good lighting is essential in every craft room, but it’s especially important in a sewing room. Check out the following sewing room photos for ideas on how you might like to organize your own sewing room:

A Quilter’s Workspace Might Include Both a Sewing Machine and a Longarm Quilting Machine and Quilt Frame:

Artist’s Studio Ideas

There are so many different art forms that there is no one ideal standard for an artist’s studio. A photographer’s loft will look entirely different from a collage artist’s workspace. However, there are some standard pieces of equipment that can facilitate many artists’ work. These include a good adjustable drafting table, a comfortable chair and an adjustable easel. Bulletin Boards, Inspiration Boards, Mood Boards, Chalkboards and Pegboards for Your Craft Room

It’s ideal if you can have at least one bulletin board, chalkboard, pegboard, pinboard or inspiration board for your craft room. Bulletin boards, mood boards and inspiration boards allow you to visually display ideas you’ll find inspiring. Pegboards allow you to easily organize tools or craft supplies that you’ll want to access frequently.

Craft Room Storage and Organization Ideas

There are zillions of possible ways to keep your arts and crafts supplies organized.

Virtually any containers will work for this purpose, including humble cardboard boxes and pizza boxes. There is no shame in using them, and this could be the way to go if you are on a super tight budget. If you need to save your money for actual craft supplies (or for that matter, for groceries or for your retirement fund), do not even feel a little bit bad about using cardboard boxes to organize your craft supplies. Do not let all those annoying people on Pinterest and Instagram make you feel bad, with their expansive, perfectly tidy craft rooms filled with Ikea furniture (or vintage furniture, or whatever it is the popular girls are decorating their craft rooms with these days). They are them. You do you.

That said, I find that I’m most efficient when I can use clear organizers that enable me to see what’s inside them, preferably without having to ever open them.

So if you have more money than time, I think you’ll find clear (or at least translucent) craft organizers to be well worth the money you spend on them.

And you don’t actually need craft organizers to keep your craft supplies organized. I use a hodgepodge of different things to keep my craft stuff tidy — some cardboard boxes, some actual craft organizers, and some things like clear ziplock bags and marine drybags.
