Craft books are Interweave’s specialty. This publisher is well-known for releasing innovative books covering a broad variety of needlework and craft techniques including crochet, knitting, beadwork, jewelry making, hand spinning, weaving and others.

This book offers you clear, step-by-step instructions for crocheting all the basic crochet stitches plus a broad variety of other types of stitches. I recommend this book as being one of the all-time best crochet books for beginners, but it isn’t just a beginner’s crochet stitch dictionary. It is suitable for crocheters of every skill level.

2. Crochet Kaleidoscope by Sandra Eng; Published by Interweave

Get your hands on color theory information that is specifically directed to crochet enthusiasts — plus a whole bunch of lovely patterns for crocheting motifs including squares, triangles, hexagons, octagons, flowers and others. An added bonus: The book also includes patterns for some finished projects you can make using these motif patterns, plus international symbol crochet charts, plus some ideas for different color variations you can try.

This is one of the most-used crochet books in my entire library. I LOVE IT! And if you’re interested in either color theory or crocheting motifs, I think you will really enjoy it too.

3. Unexpected Afghans

If you’re interested in trying different crochet techniques or crocheting innovative blanket patterns, Unexpected Afghans is a book you’ll want to consider owning. This book gives you options for crocheting unique and creative blankets in a broad variety of different design themes. This book is a compilation of new and up-to-date crochet patterns made using vintage crochet techniques such as filet crochet, Tunisian crochet and Irish crochet.

5. Best of Interweave Crochet

Did you miss out on any issues of Interweave Crochet magazine in its first 5-6 years of publication? Would you be interested in catching up on the best of the best patterns, tutorials and articles that were published in those years — without spending one zillion dollars to buy boxes full of tattered back issues on the secondary market? If so, Marcy Smith, editor of Interweave Crochet magazine, has made this easy for you to do; she has curated a collection of crochet patterns and articles she thinks are the absolute BEST crochet patterns and articles her team published during the magazine’s first years of publication. (I’m not exactly sure whether it’s five years or six years; the back of the book says “five years;” the Interweave website says six.) The result is a book called The Best of Interweave Crochet; if you’re a fan of Interweave’s publications, I’m betting it’s a book you’re going to want to add to your library.

6. Poetic Crochet: 20 Shawls Inspired by Classic Poems

There are several remarkable things about this book:

• The crochet patterns in this book are all shawl and wrap patterns. So if you want to crochet shawls and wraps, this book is probably going to be of interest to you.
• All the shawls and wraps in this book were inspired by noteworthy poems — so there is a fascinating literary aspect to the book.
• The book includes schematics, international symbol crochet charts AND written instructions.

The Beaded Edge 2 is a sequel to The Beaded Edge. Both books include patterns for crocheting truly spectacular beaded edges you can use for finishing all kinds of different items including store-bought clothing and accessories OR your hand-sewn, hand-crocheted or hand-knitted projects. These types of patterns were originally intended for use as edgings on women’s Turkish style head scarves. However, you aren’t limited to that particular use; you can use these edgings to trim the hems on skirts, jeans, and all kinds of other items.
