Are you a bargain shopper at the yarn store or craft store? Perhaps you like to take advantage of yarn sales to stock up on single skeins of yarn, but you aren’t always sure what, exactly, you’re going to make with them. Or maybe you sometimes end up with single skeins or just a couple of skeins left over after you make a larger project; that probably happens to you sometimes if you’re cautious about buying more yarn than you need to crochet big projects like sweaters and afghans.

Simply Crochet is likely to be useful to you if you’re interested in getting the best value out of those single skeins, and out of your yarn stash in general. The book includes tips for crocheting on a tight budget, and it will give you actionable insights on how to use your stash most effectively. There are multiple suggestions included showing you ideas for what you can do with just one ball of yarn. There’s also an emphasis on patterns that help you maximize the value you get from your yarn stash.

The book is organized into sections according to how much yarn you need:

  • Crochet projects requiring one ball of yarn or less
  • Crochet projects requiring 2-3 balls of yarn
  • Crochet projects requiring 4-5 balls of yarn

I could sum up this book’s contents in just a few words: “Retro style crochet patterns for making CUTE clothes, blankets, and accessories for babies and toddlers”. My favorite projects in this book are the accessories, but I also think the clothes and blankets are amazing, too. If you’re hoping to make baby clothes that aren’t just your standard pink or blue traditional designs, this book is definitely worth taking a look at.

Wow, isn’t that just gorgeous? I am enthralled by the drape of this cardigan and also by the lovely crochet lace that makes up the body of this sweater pattern design.

I love the other projects in this book, too, which are mostly sweaters and shawls intended for adult women (no kids’ projects are included in the book). There are also some accessory patterns including scarves, a necklace, and a lacy pair of fingerless gloves — a fantastic mix of patterns overall, in my opinion.
