Easy Crochet Circle -- Free Pattern

Easy Crochet Circle — Free Pattern

Skill Level: Easy

This is a free pattern for a basic flat crochet circle shape.

Supplies You’ll Need to Crochet a Circle Like This One:

Yarn or Fiber: You’ll be able to crochet this pattern using most crochet-able materials such as yarn, crochet thread, fabric strips, wire, or plarn.

Crochet Hook: Use a crochet hook that works with your chosen materials. I chose a size 7 / 1.65 mm steel crochet hook for use with my embroidery floss. For yarn, you’ll need a bigger hook than this. If using a medium weight yarn, try a size H or I hook instead.

Other: Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Finished Size:

The finished size of your circle will vary, depending on the materials you use. My embroidery floss circle measures slightly smaller than 2 inches in diameter.

Abbreviations Used in This Pattern:

Design Notes: You’ll work this pattern in a spiral, starting at the center and radiating outward. Do not slip stitch between rounds. Also, do not turn between rounds, and do not work any chain stitches between rounds.

How to Crochet the Circle Shape

Ch 2.

Round 1: Work 6 sc sts in the second ch from hook.

Round 2: Work 2 sc sts in ea st around for a total of 12 sc sts.

Round 3: [Work 1 sc in the next sc, then work 2 sc sts in the following sc.] Rep sequence in brackets all the way around for a total of 18 sc sts.

Round 4: [Work 1 sc in ea of the next 2 sc, then work 2 sc sts in the following sc.] Rep sequence in brackets all the way around for a total of 24 sc sts.

Round 5: [Work 1 sc in ea of the next 3 sc, then work 2 sc sts in the following sc.] Rep sequence in brackets all the way around for a total of 30 sc sts.

Round 6: [Work 1 sc in ea of the next 4 sc, then work 2 sc sts in the following sc.] Rep sequence in brackets all the way around for a total of 36 sc sts.

Round 7: [Work 1 sc in ea of the next 5 sc, then work 2 sc sts in the following sc.] Rep sequence in brackets all the way around for a total of 42 sc sts.

In theory, you should be able to continue working in this manner indefinitely — increasing by an extra stitch 6 times in each round, for an addition of 6 extra stitches in each round that you add. In practice, I haven’t tested the pattern out any further than about 12 rounds to confirm that it will work.

Rounds 8 – 9: In the sample pictured above, I worked rounds 8 and 9 as follows: Work 1 sc st in ea st around for a total of 42 sts.

End off and weave in your ends. Block if desired.
