How to Make a Scrapbook

There isn’t any definitive, one-size-fits-all way to make a scrapbook. Scrapbooks are as unique and individual as the crafters who make them. Nevertheless, there are some tried-and-true approaches to making a scrapbook — and so, if you are new to scrapbooking, and you aren’t sure where to start, you might find it helpful to have step-by-step instructions for one of these well-tested approaches to putting an album or mini book together.

6″ x 8″ Scrapbooking Albums and Layouts

I LOVE scrapbooking 12″x12″ pages. However, I am running out of space to store my large photo albums, so I have switched over to scrapping in a smaller size. I wanted to scrap 8″x8″, which was trendy when I first started scrapbooking in around 2006. However, it is unfortunately a lot harder to find scrapbooks and page protectors in that size now. 6″ x 8″ albums seem to be more plentifully available, so I started scrapping that size. I bought 12 albums and hundreds of page protectors in this size, and I plan to share the best examples with you as time permits. The following are a few of my 6″x8″ albums and layouts:

Road Trip to Colonial Beach: A 6″x8″ Mini Album Featuring Travel-Themed Photos

I made this scrapbooking album to document the time my husband and I made a road trip from Oxnard, California to Colonial Beach, Virginia. The purpose of our trip was to check out a newly-purchased sailboat that would become our home for 3+ years as we cruised across the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.

This scrapbook includes both road trip pictures and sailing pictures. When I was trying to decide which supplies to order for making it, I had a hard time determining whether I should use a nautical- themed collection of scrapbooking papers, or a road-trip themed collection. I pondered that question for awhile and ended up deciding to go ahead and buy items from both collections.
