Fiber Arts, Needlework and Needlecrafts:
Crochet
Crochet is a popular needlework technique which is worked using a crochet hook; some people also refer to this tool as a “crochet needle”. Whatever you call it, it’s a low-tech instrument for producing exquisite, versatile projects you can use in a wide variety of different ways.
Favorite crochet projects include granny squares, baby blankets, baby booties, hats, scarves, socks, and flowers. There are many more possibilities.
Knitting
With just a couple of knitting needles and a ball of yarn, you can make magic!
Knitted projects can enhance your home, your wardrobe and your life. Popular knitting projects include sweaters, scarves, hats, and socks. Projects range from simple to complex; with this hobby, there’s a lot of room to grow creatively.
Jewelry Making
Learn about a broad variety of jewelry making projects and techniques in our guide to jewelry making.
Beadwork
There are numerous approaches to beadwork including bead stringing, bead weaving, bead embroidery, bead knitting and bead crochet. Popular beadwork projects include beaded jewelry, beaded clothing and accessories, beaded bags and purses, beaded Christmas ornaments and other Christmas decorations and beaded napkin rings. There are countless other possibilities for projects that can be enhanced with beads.
Fauxchet
Fauxchet is a needlework technique that you might want to learn about if you find crochet to be too tiring for your hands. In some cases, it gives results that are similar to crochet; however, you can also use the technique with canvas to go in a whole different direction.
Resin Crafts
Resin is a unique medium you can use in a mind-boggling number of ways. You can paint with it, sculpt with it, cast it into molded shapes or use it as a stained glass substitute. It’s popular with jewelry makers, who are using it to make charms, cabochons, pendants, brooches, bracelets, keychains and other pretty baubles. My own preferred use for it is making little molded pieces to attach to collage art pieces, mixed media art pieces and assemblages.
Surface Design
Dyeing Clothes, Fabric and Yarn
Being able to dye your own fabrics and yarns opens up a world of creative possibilities to you. If you’re ready to learn how to dye your own textiles, I highly recommend the resources you’ll learn about on our pages about dyeing fabric and yarn:
Sewing
You can sew a variety of fantastic projects for your home and your wardrobe using sewing patterns or draping methods. Popular sewing projects range from clothing pieces such as tops, dresses, skirts and pants to curtains, valances, pillows and placemats. Baby projects are also popular sewing patterns.

Cross Stitch
Cross stitch is a fun and relaxing craft that anyone with a bit of patience can succeed at. Favorite cross stitch projects include samplers, wall art, cards, Christmas stockings and bookmarks. Want to learn more? Visit our main directory of cross stitch projects.
Embroidery
You can use embroidery to enhance any type of fiber art project: linens, clothing, accessories, quilts, and anything else you can think of. It’s fun to incorporate embroidery into other types of needlework projects; for example, you can work French knots onto crocheted granny squares or similar projects. If you’d like to learn more about embroidery, check out our main directory of lovely embroidery patterns and tutorials.
Quilting
Quilting is a fantastic way to enhance both your home decor and your wardrobe. Bed quilts and baby quilts are some of the most popular quilting projects. Other popular quilting projects include quilted placemats, pillows, ornaments, Christmas stockings, jackets, coats, handbags, tote bags, purses and diaper bags.
Macrame
Don’t skip over macrame just because the the word evokes images of weird beaded 1970s curtains and wall hangings in your imagination. Macrame is trendy once again in 2021 — and it’s waaaay cooler now than it was last time around.
Weaving
Weaving is a worthwhile craft for people of any age, from kids to seniors. Children can enjoy weaving potholders on simple frame looms or weaving paper pieces. Adults can too, and they have an even greater selection of techniques and ideas to choose from — everything from simple tapestry weaving to complex pictorial weaving on a jacquard loom.

Card Making
A popular tradition is sending or giving greeting cards to friends and family. Greeting cards are readily available to purchase in stores and online, but many crafters prefer to make their own. There are numerous reasons to do so; for starters, you can better express the ideas you have in mind when you make your own card. Some crafters do it to save money — although the truth is, you have to be systematic with your approach to card making for it to actually amount to a realistic savings over just buying your cards. (This is a topic we cover here on our website — so if you want to save money on greeting cards, be sure to check out our pages on that topic.)
Planners, Calendars, Journals and Organizers
At first glance, some of you might think it’s ridiculous to have a section for planners and calendars at a crafts website. Those items are office supplies — right?
Sure they are, but you might be surprised at how creative you can get with your planners and calendars. For starters, you can create your own planners and calendars from scratch. But if you don’t want to work that hard, you can buy ready-made planner components and customize a planner that contains exactly the sections you need for maximizing your productivity. You can buy or download ready-made planner inserts, stickers and other supplies to use for customizing your planner. And you can also create your own planner layouts exactly the way you want them. All things considered, planner crafts and calendar crafts are a totally valid category at any craft website, including ours.
Scrapbooking
Scrapbooking is a multi-disciplinary craft technique where the main focus is preservation of memories. You can accomplish this through presenting some combination of photographs, images, storytelling in the form of journaling, stamped images, handmade or purchased embellishments, drawings, paintings, etc. Most scrapbookers make scrapbook layouts on paper or chipboard to include in scrapbook albums or mini albums. Popular scrapbook sizes are 12″x12″, 8″x10″, 8 1/2″x 11″ and 6″x6″, although there are many other possibilities.
Scrapbooking project ideas and tutorials you’ll find on our website include the following:

Collage
Collage defies easy explanation. Collage artists often use paper and ephemera to create their art, but collage isn’t always just a paper craft; you can also incorporate fabrics, plastics, metals and a broad range of other materials into collage pieces. At some point, if the collage is made up mostly or completely of things other than paper, some people would insist that it’s actually an “assemblage” or “sculpture” rather than a collage. Where to draw the lines, precisely? Well, that could be an entire discussion in itself. It also gets questionable, sometimes, whether you’re creating a collage or an art journal page — or a scrapbooking layout, greeting card or collage. Much of the work you’ll see presented on this site could possibly fall into multiple categories.
Stamping
You can decorate bunches of different craft projects by stamping them with either rubber stamps or clear stamps. You can add bunches of different images or sentiments to your scrapbook pages, collages, drawings or handmade greeting cards using stamps.
Coloring
Coloring is fun for children, but it isn’t just a children’s pastime. Countless adults enjoy coloring, too. Right now, adult coloring books are one of the hottest craft trends for 2021.
Calligraphy
Calligraphy is one of the hottest up-and-coming craft trends for 2021. It’s a useful skill to learn — you can use it for addressing wedding invitations, making baby shower invitations, and incorporating into a broad variety of other arts and crafts projects.

Would you mind if I put a link to your review on my website?

Hi Andi, Thanks for dropping by! Sure, I would welcome links to that page from your website and also your social media accounts (with the exception of Pinterest; I have the “nopin” code enabled to prevent pinning from my site, because I don’t own the copyright to all the images I have posted. I have permission to post them, but not to pin them or distribute them widely across the internet.) Thank you so much for linking to this page; I really appreciate it, and I hope it helps more readers to find your excellent book.
