Altenew makes a complete line of ink pads available, and reinkers are available for most (but not all) of their ink pads:

  • They have had at least two different collections of dye inks with reinkers; one of these is current, and the other has been discontinued. The dye inks are sold separately and are also available in bundles.

  • They offer a collection of pigment inks. Some of these have reinkers that are sold separately or in bundles with the inks. Some of them do not have reinkers available.

Altenew’s Fresh Dye Ink Has Replaced the Crisp Dye Ink

Altenew’s latest, most up-to-date collection is called “Altenew Fresh Dye Inks.” This collection replaces Altenew’s previous collection of Crisp Dye Inks.

The colors these inks come in are largely the same, but the ink formulations are different. The Fresh Dye Inks and the Crisp Dye Inks are not the same formula.

I have the following Altenew inks stashed; for each ink color, you can click the links below to visit my page about that ink and find more info about it. Each page includes pictures of the ink plus project ideas for using it.

Ruby Red

Forest Glades

Coral Berry

Frosty Pink

Frayed Leaf

Jet Black

Altenew Pigment Inks, Called “Mixed Media Inks”

I own one pigment ink pad by Altenew; it’s a rich, dark navy blue color called “Sapphire.” This ink comes in a squishy foam-type pad rather than a stiffer felt-type pad. I used this ink and loved it, but it now needs reinking, and there is no reinker available for it. What a bummer!

As a result of that experience, I decided I am not going to buy any more ink pads unless they have reinkers available.

So, although I loved the Sapphire Mixed Media ink, I don’t recommend it to other crafters, because there is no refill, which makes this option a lot less sustainable than competing options that do have reinkers available.

However, please note that some of the Altenew pigment ink colors do have reinkers available. When I checked just now, I found reinkers for the Cloud White, the Obsidian (black), the Rose Gold, the Antique Gold and the Enchanted Gold. I don’t have any of those in hand to review, but I wouldn’t personally hesitate to try them based on my experiences with all the other Altenew inks I do have. Other than unavailable reinkers, I’ve been exceptionally pleased with all the Altenew ink pads I’ve purchased.

So there you have it: That’s the lowdown on Altenew inks.
