Interweave Crochet Books
1. Crochet Stitch Dictionary by Sarah Hazell

I recommend this book as being one of the all-time best crochet books for beginners, but it isn’t just a beginner’s crochet stitch dictionary. It is suitable for crocheters of every skill level.

5. Best of Interweave Crochet
Did you miss out on any issues of Interweave Crochet magazine in its first 5-6 years of publication?
Would you be interested in catching up on the best of the best patterns, tutorials and articles that were published in those years — without spending one zillion dollars to buy boxes full of tattered back issues on the secondary market?

If you answered “yes” to either of the above questions, Marcy Smith, former editor of Interweave Crochet magazine, made this easy for you to do; she curated a collection of crochet patterns and articles she thinks are the absolute BEST crochet patterns and articles her team published during the magazine’s first years of publication. (I’m not exactly sure whether it’s five years or six years; the back of the book says “five years;” the Interweave website says said six.)
The result is a book called The Best of Interweave Crochet; if you’re a fan of Interweave’s publications, I’m betting it’s a book you’re going to want to add to your library.
6. Poetic Crochet: 20 Shawls Inspired by Classic Poems

There are several remarkable things about this book:
- The crochet patterns in this book are all shawl and wrap patterns. So if you want to crochet shawls and wraps, this book is probably going to be of interest to you.
- All the shawls and wraps in this book were inspired by noteworthy poems — so there is a fascinating literary aspect to the book.
- The book includes schematics, international symbol crochet charts AND written instructions.

7. The Beaded Edge 2

The Beaded Edge 2 includes patterns for crocheting truly spectacular beaded edges you can use for finishing all kinds of different items including store-bought clothing and accessories OR your hand-sewn, hand-crocheted or hand-knitted projects. These types of patterns were originally intended for use as edgings on women’s Turkish style head scarves. However, you aren’t limited to that particular use; you can use these edgings to trim the hems on skirts, jeans, and all kinds of other items.

Interweave Craft Books
The following Interweave books contain instructions covering more than one craft technique:
9. Crochet Loom Blooms by Haafner Linssen

This innovative craft book contains instructions for projects made using a combination of two different craft techniques: Flower loom techniques plus crochet techniques. When the two techniques are combined, your creative possibilities expand dramatically, giving your many more options than you would have if you were to use either technique on its own.

10. Gifted: Lovely Little Things to Knit and Crochet

Gifted is primarily a book of knitting patterns, but it also includes instructions for making projects in a hodgepodge of other creative techniques. There are a few crochet patterns, and the book also includes sewing projects, beadwork, needle felting, applique, and embroidery. There are also recipes for making edible gift items.

Learn More About Interweave’s History
2009 was the year I first encountered a crochet book published by Interweave Press — and it was love at first sight. I was a huge fan of the company starting with the first book of theirs that I read; and, not long after that, I became an avid reviewer of their publications.
Since then, there have been massive changes to the Interweave brand. These days, Interweave still exists as a media company, but it’s managed by different owners.
Interweave used to be part of F+W Media.
F+W was a media company that published books, magazines and digital content on a variety of creative topics. They also operated community-oriented websites. However, F+W’s media empire came to an end when they went bankrupt.
As a result of the bankruptcy, they divided their assets and sold them at auction.
Penguin Random House acquired the F+W Books division and all its publishing assets, which included Interweave and other well-known brands such as North Light Books, Popular Woodworking, The Quilting Company, Krause Publications and Writer’s Digest.
As of 3-4-2026, Krause Craft is an imprint currently publishing many, but not all, of the older titles originally available from Interweave.
In all cases, I reviewed Interweave’s original editions of the above-mentioned books. Please note that I’m not sure whether the team at Krause Craft / Penguin Random House (PRH) has made substantial changes to the books since their original publication.
In particular, I have no idea if they’re using the same printing sources as the team at F+W were using — and, therefore, I’m not sure if the books still offer the same level of quality as they used to. I think they probably do, as PRH is also known for producing high-quality books, so the quality is probably fine — but I haven’t yet actually held the books in my own hands to verify this.
So there you have it: That’s my roundup of outstanding crochet and craft books that were originally published by Interweave and are now still available through Krause Craft / Penguin Random House (PRH). I hope you found some excellent Interweave books to add to your crafting library.
