Travel Scrapbooking Ideas: Farmer’s Market Visit

6″x8″ Scrapbooking Layouts from a Travel-Themed Mini Album Documenting Our Adventures While Cruising the Mediterranean Sea

My husband, Mike, and I lived aboard sailboats for about 5 years. Our most impressive accomplishment was crossing the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea aboard a 34′ sailboat.

One of our favorite things to do was visiting various farmer’s markets in the Mediterranean Region. We loved exploring the local food scene in each of the places we traveled to.

One of the local organic farms we liked best offered a no-commitment CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program. Since they didn’t require an ongoing commitment to buy directly from them, we thought it could be viable to buy produce boxes from them at times when we were in the area. This scrapbooking layout documents our first visit to their farm with our friend, Sheenah, who was a fellow liveaboard cruising sailor we met in the marina.

Craft Supplies You’ll Need for Making a Similar Scrapbooking Album:

  • 6″x8″ Scrapbooking Album: I recommend using a Sn@p! Binder for this project, but there are many 6″x8″ albums that could work well for this purpose.
  • 6″x8″ Page Protectors
  • 1 Sheet of Journal Elements 12″x12″ Patterned Paper from the Homegrown Collection by Simple Stories
  • 1 Sheet of Farmers Market 12”x12” Patterned Paper from the Homegrown Collection by Simple Stories
  • Kraft Cardstock
  • 6″x8″ Woods Patterned Paper Pad from the Color Vibe Collection by Simple Stories
  • Woods Letter Stickers from the Color Vibe Collection by Simple Stories
  • Photo Frames — I used photo frames on many of the pages in this travel album. If you want to use frames on your pages, you have many options for acquiring them. You can buy premade frames, or you can make your own.

I made mine using papers from the wood-grained patterned papers from the Color Vibe Collection by Simple Stories; these make lovely all-purpose frames you can use for framing your photos, your journaling and even possibly some of your other page design elements.

I used the We R Memory Keepers Frame Punch Board to save time on cutting out my frames. It would obviously save even more time to buy the premade version. Scrapbook.com has the premade Harvest Market Chipboard Frames available for sale, if you want to check them out.
  • 6″x8″ Patterned Paper Pad from the Harvest Market Collection by Simple Stories
  • Cardstock Stickers from the Harvest Market Collection by Simple Stories
  • Pens and Markers for Journaling — I used a Sakura Gelly Roll to do the journaling on these pages, but you can use whatever pens or markers you like for writing your journaling.
  • Adhesives: You’ll need a flat, paper-friendly adhesive plus a three-dimensional adhesive to create pages like these. I used Scrapbook.com’s Foam Adhesive Strips to adhere the photo frames and random stickers to these pages. The foam strips give these pages a three-dimensional look that adds visual interest.
  • Ink Pads — I didn’t do any stamping on these pages, but I used ink pads for inking around the edges of the journaling cards and various other elements. This gives the inked papers a bit more emphasis, and it helps to visually separate the patterns and elements from each other. It’s one of the easiest things you can do to make some of the design elements on your pages stand out. I mostly used Aged Mahogany and Walnut Stain Distress Inks by Tim Holtz for Ranger Industries on these pages — but there’s no need to seek out these colors specifically. You can get satisfactory results by grabbing and using whatever ink colors you happen to have on hand that will match the papers and embellishments you’ve selected for your pages.

So there you have it: These pages include some of my all-time favorite travel scrapbooking ideas. I hope you’ll be able to use some of these ideas for documenting your own travel adventures, too.
