My husband, Mike, and I spent about 5 years living aboard sailboats and cruising around to interesting locations. Here you can see a photo of the classic vintage wooden sailboat, Typhoon, we lived aboard for a couple of years. For most of that time, we cruised Typhoon around Santa Catalina Island and the other Channel Islands. I made this nautical themed 6×8 pocket page scrapbooking layout as part of a 6″x8″ mini album I have in progress to document my memories from those days.

In the picture I placed in the upper pocket of the pocket page, you can see the view from Typhoon’s cockpit when we were anchored in Little Fisherman’s Cove, looking towards shore.

Craft Supplies You’ll Need for Making a Similar Pocket Page Scrapbooking Layout:

• Patterned Paper: I used several different patterned scrapbooking papers to make this project. The paper with the nautical themed designs is from a Paintables patterned paper pad designed by Frank Garcia for Prima Marketing (You can click or tap here to shop for this paper at A Cherry on Top Crafts). prior to arranging the scrapbooking layout, I painted the paper using watercolor paints. The paper I used for the frame is by Craft Consortium, and I also used patterned paper by Craft Consortium to make the journaling blocks.
• 4×6 Paper or Chipboard Photo Frame: You can buy a ready-made frame for your photo, or you can make your own. The easiest way I’m aware of to make a paper frame: use a frame-making tool called the Frame Punch Board by We R Memory Keepers.
• 6″x8″ Page Protectors
• Adhesive: You can use any paper friendly adhesives you happen to have on hand for making this project. If you aren’t sure which adhesives to use, I recommend Cherry Tape and Scrapbook.com’s Adhesive foam strips for this particular project. I used the foam strips to give extra dimension to the paper picture frame and also to some of the elements in the cluster in the lower half of the page.
• Journaling Blocks: I stamped and stenciled the journaling blocks on this page using a Maggie Holmes stencil and a now-discontinued stamp from a defunct brand formerly known as Inque Boutique. However, you have many other choices for similar journaling blocks.
• Other Stamps and Stamped Images: I layered stamps and dies by Hero Arts and Katie Pertiet / 49 and Market to create the collaged cluster in the lower pocket of this pocket page.
• Scrapbook Album: I recommend 49 and Market’s six ring binders for this project, but you can use any 6″x8″ mini album you like. Also check out the Sn@p! Binders – 6″x8″ Scrapbooking Albums by Simple Stories for another option.
