Bone Shaped Puppy Dog Themed Acrylic Scrapbook Album Designed and Photographed by Cathy Schellenberg With Instructions by the Author
This album is a 5-page (double-sided), dog-bone shaped tribute to our puppy. I didn’t do a lot of personal journaling…just pictures of each of us holding Bean, and a few dog-themed quotes throughout the album. The pages are quite different from each other in techniques, but brought together by a general color scheme and theme. You will also be covering over the binder ring holes in the album to hide them, and then re-punching some holes there so we can bind this with the Zutter Bind-it-all. Also, I won’t say it in every instruction, but if you want all of your painted pages to stand up to a lot of handling and you have the time and the patience, use a coat of Mod Podge over every painted surface, before adhering photos and other embellishments.

Instructions:
Bone Shaped Puppy Dog Themed Scrapbook Album, Page 1:
Paint entire front page brown with acrylic craft paint. When the brown paint is dry, lay a piece of Magic Mesh across the middle of the page, flush with the right side, and brush some white paint on, using the Magic Mesh as a mask. Remove the mask, and let dry. Using Jet Black and Timber Brown Staz-on ink, stamp dog footprints around the perimeter of the page and ink the edges of the acrylic shape with black ink as well. Cover your chipboard title letters (mine spell “BEAN” – the name of our puppy) and the far left side of the front cover with SEI Velvet paper (ink these pieces as well if desired).
Charm:
Adhere a photo of your puppy to a small chipboard flower, trim and sand edges. Punch a hole in one of the petals and run a small chain through it so it will hang around one of the top ‘bumps’ on the dog bone cover. Hint: Use a small glue dot to make the charm stay in the right place on the cover.

Page 2 (back of page 1):
Paint back of page 1 with white acrylic craft paint. When dry, add brown paint through a Magic Mesh mask again and ink edges like you did on page 1. Again use a piece of the velvet paper to cover over the binder ring holes. Place a picture on one end of this page and embellish with misc. dog-themed stickers, stamps, brads and charms. (Keep in mind, your chain from the charm on the front cover will show here somewhere – place your picture so that the chain’s not covering someone’s face).

Page 3 (second acrylic shape):
Use some of the KI Memories Lace cardstock as a mask on this page and paint brown acrylic craft paint through the cardstock. This allows more of the acrylic to show, making it more see-through. Mat and adhere a photo on this page and again embellish with misc. dog-themed stickers, stamps, brads and charms. Be sure to place some of the tags/embellishments over the holes in the page. I also added a quote on this page, printed on my computer (My Own Topher font), cut into journaling strips; inked and outlined. ( I found a ton of great dog quotes on quotegarden.com .
Bone Shaped Puppy Dog Themed Scrapbook Album, Page 4 (back of page 3):
This side needs no painting because the masking paint from the KI cardstock shows through to this side. Simply adhere your dog-themed embellishments and photos, making sure to let some of the acrylic and paint show through from the other side. For continuity, use the dog footprint stamp liberally throughout as an embellishment. Cut a strip of SEI’s Park Buddies “Dog Run” paper to go across the page, just high enough that it covered the binder ring holes.
Bone Shaped Puppy Dog Themed Scrapbook Album, Page 5 (third acrylic page):
Completely cover this bone page with a neutral small-patterned paper (SEI’s Park Buddies “DogWood” paper). Ink edges with the Timber Brown Staz-on and embellish as previous pages. If you have a picture with lots of room to do this – add a date stamp to record when the pictures were taken.
Bone Shaped Puppy Dog Themed Scrapbook Album, Page 6 (back of page 5):
The patterned paper from the last page will show through to here, but some of your adhesive will, too. To hide this adhesive, stamp some Rhonna Farrer (Autumn Leaves) swirl stamps on this page (in Jet Black Staz-on. If you have lots of pictures to use in this album, add more here. If you’re short on pictures, don’t be afraid to have a simpler page every once & awhile with simply a quote, or a large sticker-letter title/name for your dog.
Bone Shaped Puppy Dog Themed Scrapbook Album, Page 7 (fourth acrylic page):
Use Magic Mesh as a mask for your white paint again on this page, and ink the page edges in Timber Brown Staz-on. Adhere a picture (or 2) on here and an applicable quote or journaling. Finish this page with more dog-themed embellishments or stamping.
Bone Shaped Puppy Dog Themed Scrapbook Album, Page 8 (back of page 7):
To keep the album from being too busy, include a page or two like this – no photos, no journaling…just a strip of dog paper (SEI’s Park Buddies “Dog Run”) and stamped dog footprints running across it. Again, place the paper so that the binder ring holes are hidden.
Bone Shaped Puppy Dog Themed Scrapbook Album, Page 9 (fifth and final acrylic page):
Completely cover dog bone shape with SEI’s Park Buddies “Dog Run” gingham paper. Across one corner of dog bone, ink with Timber Brown Staz-on through some Magic Mesh and ink edges of page. Complete this page with your final pictures, another thematic quote and some smaller embellishments.
Bone Shaped Puppy Dog Themed Acrylic Scrapbook Album, Page 10 (back cover)
Paint with brown acrylic craft paint, using the Magic Mesh one last time as a mask. Finish the far right hand side of this page with more of the SEI Park Buddies Velvet paper, inked; and a small dog footprint stamp in the middle at the bottom.
Bone Shaped Puppy Dog Themed Scrapbook Album Binding:
Place each of the acrylic pages from this album carefully into your Zutter Bind-It-All machine and punch 2 holes into each of the bumps on one end of the album. Bind with 2 sets of double coils. Clear Scraps acrylic will not crack in the Bind it All machine and you’ll be able to punch through the pages even though they have layers of patterned paper over them.
So there you have it: That’s how to make a dog-themed scrapbook album to use for displaying pictures of your adorable canine friend(s). We hope you’ve enjoyed this project, and that these ideas will inspire you to create your own fun dog-themed scrapbook albums and pages.
