Mixed media art is art that combines different types of media; in other words, it’s art that incorporates more than one type of material.
For example, you could create art using any combination of paint, graphite, paper, fabric, adhesive, photographs, ephemera and found objects.
Collage art is an example of a popular type of mixed media art. Collages typically incorporate paper and glue, but they can also include other materials like wood, chipboard, fabric and plastic.

Tools for Mixed Media Art
There are many tools you can use for creating mixed media art. They aren’t all necessary, but they sure do make it easier to create professional-quality artworks.
The tools I recommend below are mostly optional, but I wouldn’t want to be without any of them.
At a minimum, you’ll need a good pair of scissors. However, you’ll probably want to pick up some options beyond scissors.
If you’re a beginner to creating mixed media artwork, and you can’t buy all the things right away, I’d recommend prioritizing the purchase of a really good paper cutter. My favorite is this guillotine-style paper cutter by We R Makers, but you have many outstanding choices for paper cutters that could work for this purpose.
It’s also really helpful to have a die cutter, but a die cutter is strictly optional. I sold my collage art on eBay for YEARS (from around 1998 – 2008), and I didn’t own a die cutter during that time period.
But now that I have a die cutter, I wouldn’t want to be without it.
