Free Crochet Baby Blanket Patterns
Easy Free Crochet Shell Stitch Baby Blanket Pattern
Shell stitches have enchanted crochet enthusiasts for more than a century, and they remain some of the most popular crochet stitch patterns for use in making baby blankets and other types of crochet projects. There’s something so compelling about crocheting each delightful little grouping of shell stitches — and it’s really satisfying to complete each new row in the pattern.
The shell stitch baby blanket you see here is a contemporary design that incorporates the classic solid shell crochet stitch pattern.
The sample blanket is crocheted in a fresh, contemporary colorway that’s perfect for baby girls; it’s both classic and up to date, all at once. If you’re expecting a baby boy, substitute turquoise, blues or greens where you see pink to make the blanket more boy-friendly.

Crochet Baby Blanket With Heart Pattern (A Free Crochet Pattern)
If you like experimenting with different color combinations, you’re likely to really enjoy working on this heart-themed crochet baby blanket. Each square in the blanket can be its own unique color experiment — and when you put them all together, the result is eye-catching and super colorful. This is a free crochet pattern consisting of charts for working the squares in the tapestry crochet technique.

Pattern Sampler Baby Blanket — Free Crochet Pattern
Would you be interested in finding a pattern that will empower you to personalize a one-of-a-kind baby blanket just for the tiny new arrival you’re expecting? If so, I think you’re going to be excited to grab this free pattern!
The concept: You choose one or more of the squares you want to use to make your blanket; there are bunches of possibilities, including squares that feature heart motifs, pine tree motifs, geometric motifs, checkerboards and more. You can customize the colorway, the layout and the size of your baby blanket; the instructions cover crib sized blankets, receiving blankets, twin size blankets and adult-sized blankets. So you could choose to crochet a blanket that will grow up with the baby, or not.
I crocheted my sample baby blanket in a boy-friendly colorway that incorporates turquoise, green and tan yarns; however, it is soooo easy to customize your own colorway with this pattern. I think it would be interesting to choose random colors to make an ultra-colorful baby blanket. Another option would be to substitute two contrasting shades of pink in place of the turquoise and the green I used in my project sample, to create a baby girl’s blanket. It’s really a simple matter to re-color the squares in this pattern, so I encourage you to experiment with using your own color choices.

Buy Knit and Crochet Baby Blanket Patterns
I love free knitting and crochet patterns — but if there’s one thing I love more than a good free pattern, it’s a lovely, thoughtfully designed and creative craft pattern book. I know that not everyone shares this point of view — but if you do, and you enjoy working from well-organized, tangible craft pattern books, I invite you to consider the following suggestions for baby blanket pattern books that I think are truly worth the money:
Tunisian Crochet Baby Blankets
Tunisian crochet lovers, take note: The exclusive focus of this book is baby blanket patterns you can make using the Tunisian crochet technique. If you think of Tunisian crochet and afghan stitch as being synonymous, I think you’ll be delighted to discover a whole bunch of other Tunisian crochet stitches that go well beyond the afghan stitch — and this book will teach some of them to you. So, with this book, you not only get to crochet new baby blankets — but you also have a chance to learn some interesting new stitches, too.
