Tapestry Crochet Heart Square: Free Pattern
Want to crochet a blanket or other project made up of crocheted squares featuring a heart motif? If so, this pattern is likely to be of interest to you.
The heart design pictured above is a square that was crocheted using the tapestry crochet technique. To create this design, you’d interpret each square on the graph as one single crochet stitch. You would crochet overtop of your inactive color, and follow the graph to see where to change colors.
To add additional emphasis, you can use surface crochet slip stitch to outline the heart shape and make it stand out.

Thanks for this pattern, Amy. You asked how we’d use it. There are a lot of possibilities, but to start with, I am going to make some of these heart squares and then make some plain coordinating squares in the same size to embroider on top of. I want to make a blanket that has one square with each of my grandkids’ names embroidered on it. I hope it will turn out like like I’m hoping. Most of the kiddos have short names, so there won’t be any problem with those. I do have a “Christina” in our crew, so I am thinking I might shorten the embroidery on her name to say “Chris”. If it turns out like I am hoping, I will send you a picture. I really appreciate it that you shared this pattern — thank you!
