Hawaii is a favorite tropical vacation destination, and it’s easy to see why. For scrapbookers, an Hawaii trip is a no-brainer; you couldn’t ask for a prettier place to take pictures and then feature in a scrapbook.

This 12″ x 12″ layout shows a three-photo, single page design. I gave the page a straightforward title, “Hanauma Bay, Hawaii,” which is simply the name of the location where my photos were taken. Hanauma Bay is a popular snorkeling spot on the island of Oahua; there you can see the most amazing tropical fish — not to mention clear water and a stunning beach landscape.

I didn’t include much journaling on this page, but there is some “empty” space where you could include journaling if you want to use this type of format.

This type of layout is nice for including in a travel album or vacation scrapbook, but you could also place it in any ongoing scrapbook if you prefer to scrap chronologically.

Scrapbooking Supplies Needed:

• 3 photos
• Paper: I used patterned paper, but you could also use cardstock or similar craft paper for this project.
• An alphabet stamp set. In the pictured project, I used stamps that have long ago been discontinued. The alphabet is “Pixie Love Letters” by PSX. The numbers are “Typewriter Numbers Creative Characters” by PSX.
• Stamping ink — I used two different inks in the layout pictured here; ColorBox Fluid Chalk in Wisteria, and Rubber Stampede Acid Free Dye Based Ink.
• A small dichroic glass charm: The charm I used is an original handmade piece by an artisan who uses the ID “dichrohaven”.
• Paints and paintbrushes. Paints I used in the project sample: Lumiere Metallic Paints and Luma Brilliant Concentrated Water Colors.
• Chalks — I used Decorating Chalks by Craf-T Products. Feel free to use any comparable chalks in similar layouts, or omit the chalk all together if it is not necessary to get the color scheme you want to feature in your layout.
• Button, sewing thread and needle
• Adhesive
• Paper tag — I made mine using the Whale of a Punch Tag Punch by EK Success. You could punch your tag, or die cut it, or buy it premade.
• Tiny flower embellishments; I made mine using a small flower hand punch by Fiskars. Again, it doesn’t much matter what the source of your embellishment is, as long as you are happy with it.

Techniques Used:

• Rubber Stamping — I rubber stamped the page title and a small amount of text, which couldn’t exactly be considered journaling, on this page.
• Chalking — I added a bit of chalk around the edges to add emphasis, and also to add in some subtle color that I thought would enhance the photos and the look of the layout.
• Spin Art — Spin art is a painting technique, and it’s the reason why paints and paintbrushes are included on the supply list above. See the embellishments featuring hand-painted spiral, circle and arc designs? That’s the spin art. This technique is easy, and fun! Free instructions for this spin art are included on our website, along with a bunch of interesting projects you can make using the technique. I hope you’ll give it a try, but if it isn’t your thing, no worries; you could use other embellishments instead of the spin art on this page if you prefer.
• Hand Sewing — I sewed the button to one of the tags, and I stitched both of the tags to the layout itself. You could simply use adhesive to do this step if you prefer, but I think the thread is a special touch on this layout, and I’m glad I included the stitching.
