This scrapbooking layout documents a botanical illustration class I took back in the spring of the year 2000. I was employed as a textile designer at the time. My goal for the class was to improve my abilities to draw flowers, leaves and other botanical forms . The class location was a local botanical garden that had greenhouses filled with stunning orchids and other flowers. I took massive numbers of reference photos of the flowers there, and this is one of the scrapbooking layouts I made from those reference photos.
I Used the Following Craft Supplies to Make This Scrapbooking Layout:
The rubber stamps are all See D’s by Inque Boutique (These have now all been discontinued);
- I used the Sharie’s Lower Alphabet set to stamp the title of the layout
- There’s a set called “Phantoms” that I used for laying down the watercolor effect you see underneath the page title. I also layered images from 3 of the stamps from this set under the right hand side of the orchid photo.
- I used stamps from the Great Shapes Journaling set to create both of the journaling blocks you see on this layout.
- I used Flowers from the “Retro shapes” set to stamp the small pink flowers.
Patterned Scrapbooking Papers:
- I used papers by BasicGrey, Creative Imaginations, Autumn Leaves and Making Memories in this layout. These papers have all been discontinued, but similar floral designs are still available from many craft supply manufacturers.
Stickers:
- Epoxy stickers by Karen Russel for Creative Imaginations
Paper Crafting Tools:
- I used the Fiskars Shape Xpress cutting tool to cut out the circle around the journaling block
- I used Fiskars Paper Edgers to create the border embellishments.
Ribbon:
- RibbonFX by Hobby Lobby
Inks & Chalks:
Inks by Rubber Stampede
- Colorbox Fluid Chalk ink pads
- Decorating Chalks by Craf-T products.
Replicating this layout exactly would now be impossible, because virtually all the craft supplies used to create it have now been discontinued. However, it would be possible to substitute similar supplies to get a close approximation of this look. There are zillions of journaling block stamps that are comparable to the ones I used; ditto that for alpabet letter stamps. And you don’t even need rubber stamps to get a layered watercolor effect like the ones pictured here. You could just use actual watercolor paints if you happen to have them.
So that’s one possible idea for how to make a scrapbooking layout featuring flowers or plants. I hope you found this idea interesting and inspiring. Happy crafting!
