Neenah Solar White 110 lb. Classic Crest Cover Cardstock – Product Review and Craft Project Ideas

Are you looking for the best quality plain white cardstock to use for card making, junk journaling, scrapbooking or paper crafts?

If so, the Neenah Paper Company’s premium white, 110 lb Classic Crest Cover Cardstock is a product you’ll want to consider.

There are a zillion different white cardstock papers available. You might want to choose the Neenah Solar White 110 lb. Classic Crest Cover Cardstock in the following situations:

  • You plan to stamp on your project, and you want to choose a cardstock that withstands inking beautifully, without bleeding or smearing.

  • You want to color on your project using markers, including alcohol markers like Copics or Altenew’s; brush markers like Tombow’s; or similar media.

  • A plain, clean, solid, crisp white color is exactly what you want.

  • You want to send a card (or create a project) that is perceived as being THE BEST quality, and you can afford to pay for that (because this cardstock is pricey, relative to competing products by the same company and other companies.)

  • You want to create your project on a smooth, even surface.

Conversely, you might want to consider a different product in the following situations:

  • You don’t plan to stamp on your project, and you also don’t plan to color on it with alcohol markers. In that case, you could probably get away with using a cardstock that isn’t as hefty, or as smooth, as this one.

  • You plan to heavily use water-based media on your project; perhaps you want to stencil on it, paint on it with watercolors or spray it with inks. In that case, you could maybe use this product, but you’ll want to consider using primer or gesso on its surface first.

If you don’t already have gesso or primer in your craft supplies stash, take a look at Stamperia’s primer, Dina Wakley’s clear Gesso, and Jane Davenport’s Joyful Gess Oh! as a few fantastic options to consider using for this purpose.

But, if mixed media art is your jam, and you do a lot of spritzing, spraying, painting and stenciling, I personally wouldn’t use the Neenah Solar White 110 lb. Classic Crest Cover Cardstock as my first choice; in that situation, I’d reach for Strathmore Bristol Board, which is heftier and which withstands wet media better. You could also take a look at using dedicated watercolor paper.

  • If you don’t want your project to be solid white, you might prefer to find a colored cardstock instead. In that case, you might want to take a look at Bazzill, Core’dinations and other brands before you make your final selection.

  • If you’re on a tight budget, I recommend taking a look, first of all, at the less expensive options available from the Neenah Paper Company. They have some other products that are lower quality but still excellent, and the price on those is more affordable.

That said, I think this paper is totally worth the money. I’m on a tight budget, too, and I buy it and use it. But, I don’t use it unless the project really and truly warrants it.

  • If you want to create your project on a textured surface, this cardstock isn’t what you want. In that case, look at textured cardstock options like the ones available from Bazzill and other brands, because this cardstock is smooth and textureless.

  • You’re a total beginner at paper crafting, and you’re terrified of messing up and wasting your supplies; in that case, use a less expensive product to practice on first, and then, once you feel confident that you can successfully do the techniques you’re attempting, switch to this.

Pros

My experiences with this cardstock have all been positive so far. Here are some of the pros I’ve observed while working with it:

  • It folds beautifully using all the scoring tools in my collection, including my Scor-Pal tool and bone folders.

  • It is the ideal paper to use with alcohol markers such as Copic and Altenew Artist markers. It can be a challenge to find paper that will work with either of these brands — and this is one of the best choices I’m aware of for that purpose.

  • This paper is the perfect bright neutral white color; it’s not too yellow and not too blue.

Cons

The only real downside to this product, in my opinion, is its relatively high price.

Mind you, I think it is worth the price — but there is no denying that it is expensive compared to alternatives like white Core’dinations cardstock.

Otherwise, I have nothing negative to say about this product.

The Verdict: I Highly Recommend Neenah Solar White 110 lb. Classic Crest Cover Cardstock!

I highly recommend Neenah Solar White 110 lb. Classic Crest Cover Cardstock to other artists and crafters in cases where you’ve gone through the above list of considerations, and it ticks all the check boxes for what you want in the paper you plan to use for the project you have in mind.

I think the paper is a fantastic choice for artists and crafters who can afford it.

I use it. I love it. I have made some of my all-time best paper craft projects with it.
