Jamieson’s of Shetland Marl Chunky Yarn

Are you hoping to create Fair Isle knitting projects using the most authentic yarns and patterns possible?

If so, you really need to check out Jamieson’s of Shetland and their offerings. This small, family-owned yarn manufacturer is based in the UK. Their facilities are located in Sandness, which is on the west coast of the Shetland Islands in the northernmost region of Scotland — a location where sheep are abundant, winters are cold and knitting is a way of life.

When you think of yarns for authentic Fair Isle knitting, chunky, bulky weight yarn might not be the first thing that comes to your mind. However, if you’re hoping to knit projects that will take you or the recipient through the coldest months of winter, you might really be interested in taking a look at Jamieson’s of Shetland Marl Chunky Yarn.

Jamieson’s offers this 100% Shetland wool yarn in an extensive color palette of 40 heathered colors and 6 sophisticated tweeds. Except for the lightest colors in the collection like Ivory and Natural White, their yarn colors tend to have a variety of subtle, interesting nuances and undertones that draw my eyes in and compel me to want to look at them carefully.

Yarn Specs

This yarn knits to a gauge of 12-15 stitches per 4 inches when using size 10 knitting needles.

There are 131 yards per 100 gram ball of yarn.

Care Instructions

This is not a “Superwash” wool yarn. Projects made using this yarn should be hand washed using cold water and a gentle touch. They should be laid flat to dry, although you could also gently roll them up in towels beforehand to soak up some of the water for faster drying.
