Baby Sleep Sack Patterns to Crochet and Knit

Want to knit or crochet a sleep sack (otherwise known as a baby sleeping bag, baby cocoon, or cuddle bag)?

In my experience, it can be a little frustrating to find sleep sack patterns, because many of the best ones are “buried” in pattern books that feature other types of projects, too.

So, if you’re wondering where to find sleep sack patterns to crochet and knit, check out the following pattern books:

Adorable Baby Crochet Pattern Book:

In this book, you’ll find 40 patterns for crocheting baby layette items including sleep sacks, baby blankets, baby hats, baby sweaters, baby clothes, diaper covers, baby booties, baby toys and more.

Two of the patterns in this book are crochet sleep sack patterns:

Out of the 51 patterns in this book, there are only 3 sleep sack patterns — but all of them are beautiful:

  • “Daniel” is the most boy-friendly of the three designs.

The stitch pattern on this sleep sack isn’t a rib knit, but it sort of resembles ribbing because you knit alternating columns of seed stitch and stockinette stitch to create the main portion of the sleep sack’s body.

  • “Elen” is ideal if you know you’re crafting for a baby girl. This is the dainty, lovely lace knitting design pictured on the front cover of the book.

  • “Jackie” is a cable-knit sleep sack. This design is the roomiest of the three, because the lower edge is squared-off rather than gathered. So if you suspect that you’re knitting for a large baby, this might be a pattern you’d want to consider using.

All three of these sleep sacks are designed in such a way that you swaddle the baby inside them, and they do not have arm holes.

Also, please note that all 3 of these designs feature crocheted edgings, so you will need crochet hooks and crochet skills to complete these designs as intended (or you could substitute a different finish around the upper edges of these sleep sacks, perhaps whip stitching them in a contrasting color or attaching a separate i-cord trim instead of a crocheted edging.

But, if you want to tackle the crochet work, but you aren’t confident of your crochet skills, please feel free to use these crochet stitch tutorials. These can help you to brush up on any of your basic crochet stitches.
