I made this Valentine’s Day card using Lawn Fawn stamps and a past challenge theme from the Lawn Fawnatics blog. The challenge theme at the time was “Let’s Celebrate!,” and it was intended to be a multi-purpose theme that would allow crafters to get ahead on their card making. I thought that was a fantastic idea; I’m always up for a good challenge, and this one seemed more useful than challenging.

At the time, I had just ordered this adorable Valentine’s Day themed skunk stamp set, so I decided to make my card for Valentine’s Day.

I stamped the skunk with a cupcake and Valentine candy. Who could resist this little sweetheart’s offerings? I couldn’t; my heart melts just looking at him. What a cutie!

List of Supplies You’ll Need for Making This Card

Lawn Fawn Supplies

• Stamps: Lawn Fawn Scent With Love Stamps — Add-On
• Stamping Ink: Lawn Fawn black ink
• Paper: “Lucky Penny” From the Lawn Fawn Watercolor Wishes Collection
• Adhesive: Lawn Fawn Glue Tube

Other Craft Supplies

• Card and Envelope: I made my own card; the envelope is from Cardmaker’s Choice
• Markers: Tombow Dual Brush Pens; I used the pink from the Brights set and a couple of other, more subdued pinks from the Portraits set. There are a zillion places you can get these, but the best price I’ve found for them so far is at Dick Blick. If you don’t want to spend the money for a full set of pens, you can buy them individually at Dick Blick. You can also get individual pens from A Cherry on Top; I got some of my Tombows there too. I’ve been a frequent customer at both stores and can highly recommend both of them.
• Colored Pencils: You can use just about any gray and black colored pencils for shading and coloring the skunk. I happen to have a full set of Crayola colored pencils on hand, so I used those; Prismacolors or other colored pencils would also work beautifully for this purpose.
• Fiskars Paper Edgers: Arabian design
• White Cardstock: You can use any stiff white cardstock for stamping your design and creating your greeting card. I used Core’dinations white cardstock to make mine.
• Versacolor Pink Ink
• Heart Stencil or Die: If you have a die cutter, you’ll want to use a heart-shaped die for cutting out a scalloped or fancy heart shape. If not, no worries; you can cut this by hand if you are so inclined. I fussy-cut my heart using Fiskars paper edgers and an older heart stencil that I have had in my stash since, literally, sometime last century. The stencil I used was long ago discontinued and is no longer available, but if you do not already have a heart stencil in your craft supplies, you can freehand draw a similar heart shape and cut it out using fancy scissors.
• Scissors
• Scoring Tools: I used a Scor-Pal tool for folding and scoring my handmade card, but you can either buy a ready-made card base or use the scoring tools of your choice to make your card.

Step-By-Step Instructions for How to Make This Valentine’s Day Card:

• My card is A2 size (4.38″ x 5.75″ ). You can start by using a ready-made card in this size, or you can cut, fold and score your own card base using white cardstock.
• The Lawn Fawn “Watercolor Wishes” paper is double sided; it has a lighter pink side and a darker pink site. Love, love, love this! You can use both sides of the paper in this project to achieve maximum contrast. I cut a rectangle of this paper to attach to my card front; I have the darker side of the paper facing up for my card’s background, and the lighter side facing up in my heart shape.
• Stamp the skunk, cupcake and heart candy box images you need onto white cardstock using the ink colors of your choice. To stamp the skunk, I recommend using Lawn Fawn’s black ink; to stamp the cupcake and candy box, I used Versacolor Pink ink, but there are many other colors that would work beautifully for this.
• Color the images using suitable colored pencils and markers; to color the skunk, I used gray and black Crayola colored pencils. To color the cupcake and candy box, I used the Tombow Dual Brush markers from a couple of different sets. The brightest pink is the pink from the “Brights” set, and the “fleshy” pink colors are both from the “Portrait” set.
• Cut out a rectangle of the Lawn Fawn Watercolor Wishes paper and glue this to the card base.
• Either die-cut your heart, OR use a pencil to trace / draw a heart shape, either freehand or using a heart stencil. Cut around the heart with decorative scissors. I used pink marker to color the area between the heart and the scissor-cut edges; you can do this too if you like.
• If you have a die-cutter and the appropriate dies, you can die cut the skunk and related accessories. Otherwise, fussy-cut them out using scissors and glue them to your heart shape. Then adhere your heart shape to the card front.
• Stamp and / or handwrite your greeting, cut it out and attach to the card front. I stamped the words “Happy Valentine’s Day” in black ink on top of Watercolor Wishes pink paper. I originally hand wrote part of my greeting, but then I changed my mind about what I wanted the sentiment to say, so I stuck a couple of stickers over the hand written sentiment and stamped a new sentiment that says “With Love” using a stamp by Paige Evans. I inked around both parts of the greeting using Versacolor Pink ink before attaching them to the card front. You might want to choose different greetings, so please feel free to change them up however you want to.
• Optional: Ink around the entire outside edge of the card for additional emphasis. I did this with Versacolor Pink ink.
• Personalize the inside of your greeting card for its intended recipient.
