My husband, Mike, and I lived aboard sailboats for about five years. One of our most interesting accomplishments was sailing across the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea in our 34′ sailboat, Viva. In this photo, we had just left the Italian Island of Sardinia and were heading towards the “Stretto Di Sicilia”.

It was really difficult to journal while we were underway, but amazingly, I actually have journaling to go along with this page. This is how the journaling reads:

We left Sardegna on 9/5/2012 in the afternoon, sometime between noon and 1:00 o’clock.

Prior to our departure, most of our day was consumed by boat chores — putting everything away, cleaning and preparing to leave. I washed all our produce and put it away, then Mike refilled our water tank.

We left without incident.

I had been sure I would cry when we left Sardegna; our time there was too short and I would have liked to stay longer.

Yet, it was one of those days that sailors dream about — fair winds at about 17 knots, following seas, and small, shallow waves. The sea was so calm, the day so beautiful, and the scenery so gorgeous; it was impossible to cry on such a perfect day. We were even able to take some pictures as we left.

Craft Supplies You’ll Need to Create a Similar Scrapbooking Layout:

I used the following products to create this layout:

  • A 12″x12″ sheet of patterned paper from the Willow & Sage Collection by Bo Bunny / American Crafts
  • Multiple 6″x6″ papers from Craft Consortium’s Grunge Light Paper Pad
  • The Frame Punch Board by We R Memory Keepers
A Magnetic Date Roller Stamp by Heidi Swapp (I took off the round magnetic attachment and just used the date stamp portion of this tool).
Paper from the Paintables Pad from the French Riviera Collection by Frank Garcia for Prima Marketing
    Watercolor paints
    Fiskars Mini Scallop Paper Edgers
A 4″x6″ Mediterranean Sea map from the Capri Collection by Frank Garcia for Prima Marketing — I could not believe my good fortune to find a map that featured the EXACT SPOT I we traveled to — what are the odds of that happening?!
The geomarker stamp I used to mark our location on the map is from Citrus Twist Kits.
I used Tim Holtz / Ranger Industries’ Distress Inks and Distress Oxides for inking around the edges of the frames and patterned papers to make them stand out more.
The album and page protectors are by 49 and Market.

Thank you so much for checking out my project. I appreciate your interest!
