Looking at this paper provokes an emotional response within me that is exceedingly difficult to explain to you.
But, since you arrived at this page, presumably looking for information about this collection of Mediterranean-Themed scrapbooking paper and embellishments by Stamperia, I’ll make an effort to overcome the challenges and share an explanation.
When I look at these papers, I literally choke up and start crying – not from sadness, mind you, but rather from a deeply-rooted sense of longing.
Perhaps this is because my father’s family originally came from an island off the coast of Italy – the Island of Capri. When I look at these colorful papers – the cozy café imagery; the cliffs with scenic ocean views; the enchanting Mediterranean tiles; the lazy cats napping in the sun; and the planters and urns filled with beautiful succulents — it reminds me of my beloved grandparents, great aunties and great uncles who are now long gone.
And I wish I could have spent more time with them.
Or perhaps it’s because I had a chance to spend a too-short period of time sailing the waters of the Mediterranean Sea. At that time in my life, I was surrounded by imagery just precisely, exactly like the imagery you see printed on these papers.
Staring at those mesmerizing, deep blue ocean waves – that was my life for more than 3 years as my husband, Mike, and I explored the Mediterranean region.
These papers precisely capture some memories that I have from those days. But even more importantly, these images sort of blur the lines between the memories that I actually have, and the memories that I only wish I had – the ones that I’m still hoping to make for myself in the future.
I dream of living in a villa on the Island of Capri, or Crete, or Cyprus, (or insert the name of any other Mediterranean island here), and spending the rest of my days lounging on sun-soaked beaches, dining at the lovely cafes, petting friendly stray cats and feasting my eyes on bougainvillea blooms and olive trees.
I wish I could just step into these colorful papers and lose myself, forever. And she lived happily ever after. The end!
Oh, darnit. Here I am, crying, and trying to see through my tears to type this all out and explain it to you, and I suspect that none if this is probably making any real sense. I am sorry about that.
Maybe you look at these papers and feel nothing.
Well, if that’s the case, keep looking, because there are lots of printed and patterned papers available out there. I’m betting that, without much effort at all, you could find some others that call out to your heart in the same way that these papers beckon to mine.
