Doesn’t this card look festive, with its gorgeous red poinsettias and its other lovely floral accents? If you’d like to make a similar Christmas card to send to a friend or loved one, you’re invited to check out the step-by-step Christmas card making tutorial below:

Craft Supplies You’ll Need to Create a Similar Christmas Card:

  • Papers from the “Time to Flourish” 8×8 pad by Graphic 45: This pad features 2 papers for every month of the year. I used elements from the papers for May.
  • Heavy cardstock paper: I used Coredinations Great White Cardstock , but you might prefer to use a pale green cardstock or other color cardstock that complements the colors in your patterned paper. See below for additional insights.
  • Washi Tape: I used a shiny foil red-on-red Christmas-themed washi tape from Recollections, but feel free to grab any suitable washi tape or border embellishment you might happen to have hanging around in your craft supplies stash.
  • Scor-Pal tool, bone folder or other scoring tool
  • Envelope: I’ll be mailing this card in a plain white envelope. I like these Cardmaker’s Choice envelopes by Paper Accents, but there are many possibilities for envelopes that will complement this card design well.
  • Adhesive: I used Cherry Tape and Glue Dots as the adhesives to make this Christmas card, but you could use pretty much any paper-friendly adhesive for putting this design together.
  • Paper Trimmer
  • Scissors
  • Chalk: Back in scrapbooking’s heyday, which was around 2002-2003, chalk was trendy. Since then, that trend has died, and chalk is harder to find now. But if you happen to have chalk in your craft supply stash from those days, you can use it the same way I did to transform the visible portions of your white cardstock into a lovely green that complements your patterned paper. If you can’t find chalk, don’t worry, you can simply use a pretty pale green cardstock instead of white cardstock to make your card base.

How to Make the “Very Merry Christmas” Card

The first step in making this card: Transform one sheet of 8.5″ x 11″ cardstock into 2 card bases. You can use them both to make these cards, or you can use one and put one aside to use for making some other card later. To accomplish this, you’ll cut the sheet of cardstock into 2 identical pieces measuring 8.5″ x 5.5″ each. Then use a scoring tool to score and fold the cardstock to create a card measuring 5.5″ wide by 4.25″ tall.

Cut out several of the cut-aparts from the “Time to Flourish” paper pad. For this card, I used a bit of the overall patterned paper plus a couple of the cut-apart designs that say “Very” and “Merry”. Tape the larger piece of poinsettia patterned paper to the front of your card base.

Cut 2 identical pieces of Christmas-themed washi tape measuring 5.5″ across. Stick them to the card base right above and below the patterned paper.

Now tape the “Very” and “Merry” sentiments to the card base, layering them overtop of the washi tape.

If you were able to dig up some decorating chalks from your craft supply stash, go ahead and use them to customize the color of your card. I chose a lovely pale green chalk color as the finishing touch for my card. This step is strictly optional, but I think it is a nice touch if you are able to do it.

That’s it! Those are the step-by-step instructions for making this Christmas card. I hope you’ll enjoy making and sending your own version(s) of this card. Here’s wishing you and yours a joyous holiday season this year.
