Treble Crochet Is One of the Most Important Basic Crochet Stitches.

Technically, the triple treble crochet is one of the basic crochet stitches. However, it isn’t used all that frequently in contemporary crochet patterns. If you enjoy working vintage crochet patterns, it’s a worthwhile stitch to know, as it was used more often in times past than it is these days.

The triple treble crochet is a tall stitch. There really isn’t a “tallest crochet stitch,” considering that (in theory) you could always make a taller stitch. But the triple treble crochet is just about the tallest practical crochet stitch, because taller stitches get quite cumbersome to work. It’s possible to make taller stitches, there isn’t much motivation that I can see for doing so.

If triple treble stitches don’t easily flow off your crochet hook, don’t worry, that’s normal. If you’re like most people, you’ll have to practice them a bit before you get truly comfortable with them.

How to Do the Triple Treble Crochet Stitch

Begin with an active loop on your hook. You could get an active loop by crocheting a starting chain, if you want to work in rows to create a piece of double treble crochet fabric.
Wrap your yarn or thread around your hook four times.
Insert your hook into the spot you want to work your triple treble crochet. If you’re crocheting into a starting chain, you’ll usually want to work a triple treble crochet stitch into the 7th chain from your hook. If you’re working your triple treble crochet stitch into another stitch, you’ll usually want to work it through both loops of the stitch to make a standard triple treble crochet.
Grab the yarn with your hook and pull it through the work, without pulling it through the other loops quite yet. You’ll have 6 loops on your hook.
Wrap the yarn over your crochet hook again.
Grab the yarn with your hook and pull it through the closest two loops on your hook. You’ll have 5 loops left on your hook.
Wrap the yarn over your crochet hook again.
Grab the yarn with your hook and pull it through the closest two loops on your hook. You’ll have 4 loops left on your hook.
Wrap the yarn over your crochet hook again.
Grab the yarn with your hook and pull it through the closest two loops on your hook. You’ll have 3 loops left on your hook.
Wrap the yarn over your crochet hook again.
Grab the yarn with your hook and pull it through the closest two loops on your hook. You’ll have 2 loops left on your hook.
Wrap the yarn over your crochet hook again.
Grab the yarn with your hook and pull it through the remaining two loops on your hook.
Your double treble crochet stitch is now complete.
